Yancheng is best known for having the largest jurisdictional area in Jiangsu. Formerly called Yandu, it became a city on January 18, 1983, and stretches along the eastern coast of the province beside the Yellow Sea. Its neighbours include Lianyungang, Huai’an, Yangzhou, Taizhou and Nantong.
