The Villages spans three Florida counties, an unusual footprint for a census-designated place. It forms the central area of a larger master-planned community restricted by age, with 79,077 residents recorded in the 2020 census. Central Florida puts it about 20 miles south of Ocala and 45 miles northwest of Orlando, within the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford metropolitan area.
