Country: Taiwan Taoyuan has grown from a satellite city of the Taipei metropolitan area into Taiwan’s fourth-largest metropolitan area and fifth-most-populated city. In northwestern Taiwan, it includes Taoyuan District, the municipal seat, and Zhongli District, which together form a major urban area. Its name means “peach garden,” recalling the many peach trees that once filled the region, and it became a special municipality in 2014.
