Country: New Zealand Takaka is best known as a gateway between Golden Bay and the more populated Tasman Bay coast. This small New Zealand town stands at the southeastern end of Golden Bay, on the lower reaches of the Tākaka River at the northern end of the South Island. State Highway 60 follows the river valley through town before crossing Tākaka Hill toward Motueka, and Tākaka Aerodrome provides local air service.
