As Shanxi’s capital, Taiyuan serves as the province’s political, economic, and cultural heart, as well as a hub for international exchange. Its industrial base is centered on energy and heavy chemicals, while its long history as a capital or provisional capital for several Chinese dynasties earned it the name Lóngchéng.
