With 118,487 residents, Pescara is Abruzzo’s largest city, growing to about 294,800 people across its wider urban area. On Italy’s Adriatic coast, where the Aterno-Pescara River reaches the sea, today’s municipality took shape in 1927 by bringing together the old fortress town, the southern side of the river, and Castellamare Adriatico to the north. It also serves as the capital of Pescara province.
