Country: United States of America Norridge is best known as the “Island Within a City,” forming an enclave with neighboring Harwood Heights inside Chicago. Once farmland settled in 1830, the area picked up the early nicknames “Goat Village” and “Swamp,” reflecting a local goat farm and its soggy, roadless conditions. Incorporated as a village in 1948, Norridge prevented Chicago from annexing it.
