Country: Brazil Manaus is the capital and largest city of Brazil’s Amazonas state, as well as the country’s seventh-largest city. Near the meeting point of the Negro and Amazon rivers, it serves as the heart of the Manaus metropolitan area, the North Region’s largest by urban landmass. With more than two million residents, it is one of just two cities in the Amazon rainforest to reach that population, alongside Belém.
