Kunming is a major tourism centre in China and the political, economic, communications and cultural heart of Yunnan province. Known as the “City of Eternal Spring,” it has a mild climate throughout the year. During World War II, the city served as a Chinese military centre, hosted the U.S. Army Forces China-Burma-British Raj headquarters, and became a key transport terminus for the Burma Road.
