Country: Australia Katherine takes its name from the Katherine River, which flows through the town in Australia’s Northern Territory. About 320 kilometres southeast of Darwin, it is the Territory’s fourth largest settlement and a place where the outback meets the tropics. At the 2021 Australian census, its urban population was 9,643.
