Kaohsiung is Taiwan’s largest city by area and the biggest urban center in the island’s south. Home to around 2.7 million people, it ranks as the country’s third most populous city. Since merging with Kaohsiung County in 2010, its expanse has grown from a coastal city core through rural districts and into the mountainous Yushan Range.
