Country: United Kingdom Loch Ness was part of the former Inverness District, a Highland local government district in Scotland. Created in 1975, it included the town of Inverness, where its council was based, along with a wide rural area. The district ended in 1996 when Highland became a single-tier council area, and a Highland Council area committee later covered much the same ground.
