With an estimated 476,273 inhabitants, Hsinchu is Taiwan’s most populous city outside the special municipality system. On the northwest coast, it faces the Taiwan Strait and borders Hsinchu County and Miaoli County. Its famous nickname, the Windy City, comes from the strong northeastern monsoon that sweeps through in autumn and winter.
