Handan’s urban area has grown into a continuous conurbation with Shahe City in neighbouring Xingtai. The prefecture-level city occupies southwestern Hebei, reaching the province’s southern edge and sharing borders with Shanxi, Henan, Shandong and Xingtai. By the end of 2024, Handan had 9,182,100 residents, with 62.10% living in urban areas.
