Country: Germany Hanau’s long tradition of precious metalworking has made it a home for goldsmiths since the 16th century. Today, the city is an important transport centre in Hesse, with a major railway junction and a port on the River Main, 25 kilometres east of Frankfurt am Main. It is also the birthplace of Jakob and Wilhelm Grimm and Franciscus Sylvius, and home to Heraeus, one of Germany’s largest family-owned companies.
