The Silk Road once reached its eastern terminus in Guangzhou, giving the city a history stretching back more than 2,200 years. Also known as Canton, it is Guangdong’s capital and largest city, positioned along the Pearl River in southern China, about 120 kilometres northwest of Hong Kong and 145 kilometres north of Macau.
