Country: Chile Nearly 1,000 monumental moai still stand across Easter Island, created by the early Rapa Nui people. This special territory of Chile lies in the southeastern Pacific, at the far southeastern point of the Polynesian Triangle. UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site in 1995, and much of the island is protected within Rapa Nui National Park. It is also the only Polynesian territory where Spanish is an official language.
