Country: Australia With a population of 339 at the 2011 census, Cudal has earned the catchline “home of the platypus,” thanks to the platypodes found in Boree Creek. The town was first surveyed in 1867 on the traditional lands of the Wiradjuri people, 296 kilometres west of Sydney in New South Wales’ Central West. Fertile basalt soils from lava flows at Gaanha Bula Mount Canobolas support a mix of agriculture, retail and government services.
