The Supreme Court of Appeal gives Bloemfontein its longstanding reputation as South Africa’s judicial capital. Also known as Bloem, it is the capital and largest city of the Free State province, sharing the country’s national roles with Cape Town and Pretoria. Since 1994, however, South Africa’s highest court, the Constitutional Court, has been in Johannesburg.
