Country: Australia Auburn takes its name from Oliver Goldsmith’s poem The Deserted Village, which calls an English Auburn the “loveliest village of the plain.” Today, this Western Sydney suburb is 16 kilometres west of Sydney’s central business district, within Cumberland City Council. It was once the administrative centre of Auburn Council.
