Aosta is best known as the capital and largest city of the Aosta Valley, a bilingual Alpine region in Italy. With 33,127 inhabitants, it stands near the Italian entrances to the Mont Blanc and Great St Bernard tunnels, where the Buthier meets the Dora Baltea. The city also marks the meeting point of routes crossing the Great and Little St Bernard Passes, 110 km north-northwest of Turin.
