Amiens Cathedral, France’s largest Gothic cathedral, gives the city its grandest landmark. In northern France, about 120 kilometres from Paris and 100 kilometres southwest of Lille, Amiens serves as the prefecture of the Somme department and has 136,449 inhabitants. The city is also home to one of France’s largest university hospitals, while author Jules Verne lived here from 1871 until his death in 1905 and spent 15 years on the council. Emmanuel Macron was born in Amiens.
